Personal Interpretation: Woodley e01 (x)

When watching the first episode of Woodley a thought came over me, and I haven’t been able to shake it, so I’ve decided to write it down. Although it was not most likely the intention of Frank Woodley, when writing the script and character of Woodley, I feel as though he is in a sense a grown up and larger reflection of Frank from The Adventures of Lano & Woodley. I know that Frank’s persona on stage, and in The Adventures are very similar and so this likeness in character would have occurred on a minimalist level anyway. But when watching this scene in Woodley e01, I was reminded of the episode Starquest in The Adventures of Lano & Woodley. Colin and Frank watching a broken television together unentertained but never the less, together on the coach and watching. When seeing Frank on his own in Woodley, once again staring at a broken television screen, but now alone and in the dark, without Colin next to him, I must admit my heart broke. I felt as though this was Frank, from The Adventures of Lano & Woodley but years later; without Colin and struggling on his own, in a very small and pathetic home, with a television he most likely broke as well, attempting to find some meaning in life and confidence in himself. But without Colin by his side, to smile and laugh, or entertain his small childish endeavours or hopes, he is lost; feeling hopeless and unwanted. It almost made me cry.

But this is totally true! Frank said he kind of thought that this Frank was an extension of Frank from Adventures. Which is heartbreaking. I love this show.
